Easy steps to apply for visa to Thailand

Please note that the Royal Thai Embassy shall be the sole authority providing visa applications by post. The Royal Thai Honorary Consulate in Lithuania and the Royal Thai Honorary Consulate-General in Iceland will no longer accept visa applications by post from 1 May 2014. Kindly note also that the Royal Thai Honorary Consulate-General in Hvide Sande is permanently closed. When applying for a visa at the Royal Thai Embassy, it is required that the applicants use and submit an application form from the Royal Thai Embassy only. The visa application form from the Royal Thai Honorary Consulate-General in Hvide Sande WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

As of 13 November 2015 onwards, the Royal Thai Embassy will launch the “Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV)” scheme. The new METV is an addition to the existing single entry 60 (sixty) days tourist visa, where the double and triple entries tourist visa will not be issued by the Embassy after the afore-mentioned date.

Visa application and processing time

1. Personal contact at the Embassy

  • Submission of visa application is ONLY between 09.00 hrs – 11.30 hrs from Monday to Friday (except official holidays). Any visa applications submitted at the Embassy after 11.30 hrs will NOT be accepted.
  • Collection of visa is ONLY between 13.00-16.00 hrs.
  • Visa applications submitted at the Embassy in person will take approximately 3 working days during the low season (March – September) and up to 5 working days during the high season (October – February).

2. Postal application

  • Visa applications sent to the Embassy by post will take up to 15 working days in all seasons.
  • For visa applications sent to the Embassy by post, all the required documents must be in order.
  • Kindly enclose the visa fee in cash or bank check issued by a Danish bank and a self-addressed envelope with appropriate postage (registered mail only) so that the Embassy can return the passport(s).

Applications lacking any required documents will not be processed and will be returned to the applicant immediately.

For postal visa applications sent to the Embassy from Iceland, Lithuania, Greenland and the Faroe Islands, visa fees are to be enclosed in Danish currency only. Travelers who reside in Denmark and are expected to travel within a short time frame are strongly advised to submit the visa applications to the Embassy in person.

For Danish Passport holder

Any Danish passport holder is normally allowed to enter and stay in Thailand up to 30 days without a visa for tourism purpose when enter the country by air and only 15 days by land or by sea. If your stay will be longer than the mentioned period, then you need to apply for a visa.

For Applicants  listed in the countries with additional requirements

**Applicants listed in the countries with additional requirements namely; Afghanistan, Algeria, Central African Republic Bangladesh China, Republic of Cameroon, Central Africa, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Republic of Ghana, Republic of Equatorial Guinea, Republic of Guinea, India, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Lebanon, Libya, Republic of Liberia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Federal Republic of Somalia, Republic of Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe and Yemen are requested to submit the visa applications at least four weeks prior to the travel date. For Danish Alien’s Passport (Grey) and Danish Travel Document (Blue) Passport holder

  1. Applicants who are originally nationals of countries with additional requirements and currently holding Danish Alien’s Passport and Danish travel documents need to submit the visa application at least four weeks in advance as well. Make sure that all required documents submitted are in copies.
  2. Holders of Danish travel documents and Danish alien passports must apply for a visa regardless of how many days the applicant will stay in the Kingdom.

For Minor

In case the applicant is a minor, both parents need to sign on the child’s application as consent. In case of single parent, a supporting document of child’s full custody is required.

The Embassy does not provide copy service and all copies must be made in A4 paper.**

1.Tourist Visa

1.1 Single Entry Tourist visa (60 days stay permit)
When applying for a tourist visa, applicants are requested to bring the following documents along with the application form duly completed;

  • Actual passport (valid at least six months and in good condition)
  • Copy of the passport
  • Copy of the round-trip tickets or reservation
  • Copy of hotel reservation/ rental contract/deed. In case of residing with a family, an invitation from the host family along with a copy of their undersigned Thai ID or house registration is required.
  • Copy of the residence permit AND copy of the yellow CPR card if you are a non-Danish national residing in Denmark

 Remark

  1. The single entry tourist visa has its validity of three months from the date of issue with the duration of sixty days stay permit. Travellers are allowed to apply for a thirty days extension of stay permit at the nearest Thai Immigration Office.
  2. The Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) has a validity of six months from the date of issue and the duration of stay of up to sixty days per visit. You are advised to check the stamp of the immigration upon arrival.

With tourist visa, travellers are strictly prohibited to conduct in all kinds of work including volunteer work and internship.

2. Non-immigrant Category O visa

2.1 Category O for retirement

Applicants applying for a non-immigrant O visa for retirement purpose must be at least 50 years of age and above and receive a monthly pension income of 65,000 baht (approximately 12,500 DKK after tax). Applicants are to bring the following documents along with the application form duly completed;

  • Actual passport (valid at least six months and in good condition for a single entry Non-Immigrant visa and valid at least one and a half year for one year Non-Immigrant visa with multiple entries)
  • Copy of the passport
  • Copy of the roundtrip tickets or reservation
  • Copy of hotel reservation/ rental contract/deed. In case of residing with a family, an invitation from the host family along with a copy of their undersigned Thai ID or house registration is required.
  • Copy of the residence permit AND a copy of the yellow CPR card if you are a non-Danish national residing in Denmark
  • Citizens listed in the countries with additional requirements, please see section List of Certain Countries with Additional Requirements. Click here
  • One colored passport picture taken no longer than six months
  • Copy of pension certificate showing a monthly income of at least 12,500 DKK after tax, eg. Årsopgørelse (this document can be obtained from the tax office or its website www.skat.dk and NOT the bank statement. The income statement you printed out from your netbank is not considered as proof of pension but it can be a supplementary document should your monthly pension income be less than 65,000 Baht.), letter from pension institute or Kommune.
  • In case the applicant wishes to apply for a Non-Immigrant visa for the spouse and the latter does not have enough pension income for his/her own application, the applicant may submit a copy of the marriage certificate as proof of relationship and how the income will be shared during the stay in Thailand

2.2 Category O due to family ties

        2.2.1 Based on the ground of marriage

Any foreign nationals married to a Thai national can apply for a Non-Immigrant O visa (marriage visa). Applicants are to bring the following documents along with the application form duly completed;

  • Actual passport (valid at least six months and in good condition for a single entry Non-Immigrant visa and valid at least one and a half year for one year Non-Immigrant visa with multiple entries)
  • Copy of the passport
  • Copy of the round-trip tickets or reservation
  • Copy of hotel reservation/ rental contract/deed. In case of residing with a family, an invitation from the host family along with a copy of their undersigned Thai ID or house registration is required. In case of work or attending business conferences, a confirmation from the host company confirming the applicant’s residential address is required.
  • Copy of the residence permit AND a copy of the yellow CPR card if you are a non-Danish national residing in Denmark.
  • Citizens listed in the countries with additional requirements, please see section List of Certain Countries with Additional Requirements. Click here
  • One colored passport picture taken no longer than six months
  • Copy of marriage certificate
  • Spouse’s declaration of marriage. The document must be signed and dated
  • An undersigned and dated copy of spouse’s passport AND Thai ID

      2.2.2 As a child of a Thai parent

Applicants who are half Thai of origin (e.g. born of a Thai mother and a Danish father) can apply for a Non-Immigrant visa. Applicants are to bring the following documents along with the application form duly completed;

  • Actual passport (valid at least six months and in good condition for a single entry Non-Immigrant visa and valid at least one and a half year for one year Non-Immigrant visa with multiple entries)
  • Copy of the passport
  • Copy of the round-trip tickets or reservation
  • Copy of hotel reservation/ rental contract/deed. In case of residing with a family, an invitation from the host family along with a copy of their undersigned Thai ID or house registration is required. In case of work or attending business conferences, a confirmation from the host company confirming the applicant’s residential address is required.
  • Copy of the residence permit AND a copy of the yellow CPR card if you are a non-Danish national residing in Denmark.
  • One colored passport picture taken no longer than six months
  • Copy of birth certificate as proof of the familial tie as well as an undersigned copy of parent’s passport AND Thai ID. Please note that in case of minors, both parents must sign on the children’s applications. Should both parents are no longer married or are separated, an official child custody document from the Danish authority is requested.

    2.2.3 As a former Thai citizen

Applicants who were formerly Thai citizens and currently holding other citizenship can also apply for a Non-Immigrant visa providing that they submit the following documents along with the application form duly completed;

  • Actual passport (valid at least six months and in good condition for a single entry Non-Immigrant visa and valid at least one and a half year for one year Non-Immigrant visa with multiple entries)
  • Copy of the passport
  • Copy of the round-trip tickets or reservation
  • Copy of hotel reservation/ rental contract/deed. In case of residing with a family, an invitation from the host family along with a copy of their undersigned Thai ID or house registration is required. In case of work or attending business conferences, a confirmation from the host company confirming the applicant’s residential address is required.
  • Copy of the residence permit AND a copy of the yellow CPR card if you are a non-Danish national residing in Denmark.
  • One colored passport picture taken no longer than six months
  • Copy of the Thai ID OR Thai household registration

   2.3 Category O for voluntary work

Applicants who wish to conduct a voluntary work in Thailand can only apply for a single entry Non-Immigrant O visa which allows him/her to stay in Thailand for 90 days. Should the work period exceed 90 days, applicants must contact the Thai Immigration Service and apply for an extension of the stay permit. Applicants are requested to submit the following documents along with the application form duly completed;

  • Actual passport (valid at least six months and in good condition)
  • Copy of the passport
  • Copy of the round-trip tickets or reservation
  • Copy of hotel reservation/ rental contract/deed. In case of residing with a family, an invitation from the host family along with a copy of their undersigned Thai ID or house registration is required. In case of work or attending business conferences, a confirmation from the host company confirming the applicant’s residential address is required.
  • Copy of the residence permit AND a copy of the yellow CPR card if you are a non-Danish national residing in Denmark.

  • An invitation letter from the organization in Thailand stating the purpose of your stay in Thailand as well as the period of the work
  • A copy of the organisation’s registration

 Remark

  1. Kindly note that a single entry Non-Immigrant visa allows travellers to stay in the Kingdom of Thailand for three months only. An application for extension of stay permit is possible at the Thai Immigration Office provided that the applicants contact the Immigration in person with the required documents according to each category of visa.
  2. On the other hand, a multiple entries Non-Immigrant visa with one year validity allows a maximum stay in Thailand for three months per entry, meaning that travelers must leave the country every 90 days or contact the Thai Immigration for extension of stay permit.

   3. Non-Immigrant Category B

     3.1 For business purposes such as attending a conference, meetings and visiting business partners

Applicants who wish to travel to Thailand for a business purpose such as attending a conference should apply for Non-Immigrant B visa and only a single entry is granted at a time. The following documents along with the application form duly completed are required;

  • Actual passport (valid at least six months and in good condition)
  • Copy of the passport
  • Copy of the round-trip ticket or reservation
  • Copy of hotel reservation/ rental contract/deed or a confirmation from the host company confirming the applicant’s residential address. In case of residing with a family, an invitation from the host family along with a copy of their undersigned Thai ID or house registration is required.
  • Copy of the residence permit AND/OR copy of the yellow CPR card if you are a non-Danish national residing in Denmark.
  • Citizens listed in the countries with additional requirements, please see section List of Certain Countries with Additional Requirements. Click here

  • An invitation letter from the company in Thailand
  • Copy of company’s registration
  • A reference letter from the Danish company stating the purpose of the visit in Thailand

3.2 For the purpose of working in Thailand

If you have been given a job offer in Thailand or the company you are currently employed is transferring you to their sister company in Thailand, it is necessary that you apply for a single entry Non-Immigrant B visa before entering the Kingdom. This visa allows the applicant to stay and work in Thailand for 90 days. During the stay, the applicant must contact the Thai Immigration Service within 30 days after arrival and apply for an extension of the stay permit. The applicant must also obtain a work permit at the Ministry of Labour. The following documents along with the application form duly completed are required;

  • Actual passport (valid at least six months and in good condition for a single entry Non-Immigrant visa and valid at least one and a half year for one year Non-Immigrant visa with multiple entries)
  • Copy of the passport
  • Copy of the roundtrip ticket or reservation
  • Copy of hotel reservation/ rental contract/deed or a confirmation from the host company confirming the applicant’s residential address. In case of residing with a family, an invitation from the host family along with a copy of their undersigned Thai ID or house registration is required.
  • Copy of the residence permit AND copy of the yellow CPR card if you are a non-Danish national residing in Denmark.
  • Citizens listed in the countries with additional requirements, please see section List of Certain Countries with Additional Requirements. Click here
  • One colored passport picture taken no longer than six months
  • An invitation letter from the company in Thailand
  • Copy of company’s registration
  • Copy of the work contract
  • Copy of work permit form 3 issued by the Ministry of Labour of Thailand (W.P.3/ Tor Thor 3 Click here ) for applicants who do not hold a valid Thai work permit yet
  • Copy of valid Thai work permit (if any)

NOTE: Should the applicant wish to relocate to Thailand with their spouse and/or children, the accompanying family members need to apply for a Non-Immigrant O visa. The following documents are required for the accompanying family members along with the application form duly completed;

  • Actual passport (valid at least six months and in good condition for a single entry Non-Immigrant visa and valid at least one and a half year for one year Non-Immigrant visa with multiple entries)
  • Copy of the passport
  • Copy of the roundtrip ticket or reservation
  • Copy of hotel reservation/ rental contract/deed or a confirmation from the host company confirming the applicant’s residential address. In case of residing with a family, an invitation from the host family along with a copy of their undersigned Thai ID or house registration is required.
  • Copy of the residence permit AND copy of the yellow CPR card if you are a non-Danish national residing in Denmark.
  • Citizens listed in the countries with additional requirements, please see section List of Certain Countries with Additional Requirements. Click here
  • One colored passport picture taken no longer than six months
  • An invitation letter from the company in Thailand
  • Copy of the marriage certificate in case of accompanying spouse. Please note that according to the Thai law, any legal rights can be granted to the spouse through legal marriage, hence the applicant’s cohabitant/partner (boyfriend/girlfriend) will not be grant a Non-Immigrant O visa.
  • Copy of the birth certificate in case of accompanying child. Please note that in case of minors, both parents must sign on the children’s applications. Should both parents are no longer married or are separated, an official child custody document from the Danish authority is requested.

Remark

Keep in mind that the embassy can only issue a single entry non-immigrant B visa, which allows you to work in Thailand for three months. Once you arrive in Thailand, you should contact the Ministry of Labour of Thailand to obtain a work permit and contact the Immigration Bureau to extend your stay permit if you should stay more than three months.

 4. Non-Immigrant Category ED

     4.1 For the purpose of studying in Thailand

Applicants are to apply for a Non-Immigrant ED visa if traveling to Thailand for the following educational purposes;

  1. Studying at a Thai or an International School in Thailand (completing secondary or high school)
  2. Completing an exchanged programme at a school or university in Thailand for a semester or more
  3. Being accepted by a Thai university to complete a Bachelor, Master or PHD programme

The following documents are required along with the application form duly completed;

  • Actual passport (valid at least six months and in good condition for a single entry Non-Immigrant visa and valid at least one and a half year for one year Non-Immigrant visa with multiple entries)
  • Copy of the passport
  • Copy of the flight ticket or reservation
  • Copy of hotel reservation/ rental contract/deed or a confirmation from the host university confirming the applicant’s residential address . In case of residing with a family, an invitation from the host family along with a copy of their undersigned Thai ID or house registration is required.
  • Copy of the residence permit AND copy of the yellow CPR card if you are a non-Danish national residing in Denmark.
  • Citizens listed in the countries with additional requirements, please see section List of Certain Countries with Additional Requirements. Click here
  • One colored passport picture taken no longer than six months
  • Invitation letter/ acceptance letter from the school/university you are attending
  • School registration (not necessary for university)
  • A copy of tuition fee payment
  • A reference letter from the Danish school or university (in case of attending an exchanged programme)

      4.2. For the purpose of internship

In order to complete a Bachelor or a Master’s degree in Denmark, it is common that students are required to complete an internship at a company, hospital, NGOs and other organisations and a lot of internships usually take place overseas. When a student is accepted an internship in Thailand, she/he needs to apply for a Non-Immigrant ED visa. The following documents are required along with the application form duly completed;

  • Actual passport (valid at least six months and in good condition for a single entry Non-Immigrant visa and valid at least one and a half year for one year Non-Immigrant visa with multiple entries)
  • Copy of the passport
  • Copy of the round-trip ticket or reservation
  • Copy of hotel reservation/ rental contract/deed or a confirmation from the host company confirming the applicant’s residential address. In case of residing with a family, an invitation from the host family along with a copy of their undersigned Thai ID or house registration is required.
  • Copy of the residence permit AND copy of the yellow CPR card if you are a non-Danish national residing in Denmark.

Taking Thai boxing courses or diving lessons and other activities will not be considered as education but mere hobby, hence tourist visa is eligible.

The Embassy accepts visa payment only in cash or bank check issued by a Danish bank. The Embassy does not accept credit cards, neither bank transfers nor other currencies than Danish Kroner.

All documents must be copied  in A4 size. Do not attempt to cut the copy of your passport into a passport size.
